Case study: Optimism for the future

All names have been changed along with some aspects of these case studies to maintain anonymity.

Fasul, Hanifa and their family arrived in the UK during Op Pitting but are still in bridging waiting for their house to be ready.

Fasul explained:

“I was working in security in Afghanistan, we had happy life together with my family, but after the collapse of the Afghan government to Taliban, my life was in danger since I worked Afghan government and had supported the UK mission.

When we arrived in the UK, since we left our country, home and everything so, we were disappointed and worried about our life here in the UK.  I left my parents in Afghanistan and I am really worried about them, if the Taliban find that my parents are in Afghanistan they may capture and torture them to find me.  But with the passage of time we are now happy and life is going well.

We are still in a bridging hotel and have been waiting for our new home to be ready to move. It is very frustrated to see people arrive after us and they already move to their new homes, and we are waiting for almost two years to move to our new home. But we are happy living in the UK with peace and prosperity, my children are going to their schools, my wife and I are also attending classes in order to learn and integrate ourselves into the community we are living in.

I am optimistic for my future and the future of my children here in the UK, we are living in peace without any tension and fear, we have freedom of speech, movement, and doing any legal thing we want.

My advice for those coming to the UK is that UK is a great country, your family is safe here, your children can go to school and you will have happy life and bright future in the UK.”
